How to Write in bold, italics and strikethrough on WhatsApp

How to write bold on WhatsApp? And in italics? These are some of the possibilities available in the popular mobile messenger, which still has options to write in strikethrough and monospace.

The procedure does not require the installation of other apps or extensions, as it works by using special characters between the words you want to highlight. Learn in the following tutorial how to format your WhatsApp messages.

To send messages in bold, enclose the words in asterisks

at the beginning and end of the sentence. Example: *Haanga* turns Haanga

To send messages in italics, enclose words in underlines (_) at the beginning and end of the sentence. Example: _Haanga_ turnsHaanga

Strikethrough (strikethrough)

To send strikethrough (strikethrough) messages, enclose the words between two tilde symbols (~) at the beginning and end of the sentence. Example: ~Haanga~ flipHaanga

To send monospaced messages and change the WhatsApp font, place the words between three backtick icons (`) at the beginning and end of the sentence.

Example: “` Haanga“` becomes H aang a.

Can I format text on WhatsApp Web or Desktop?

Yes. However, formatting only works by the commands described at the beginning of the tutorial. So, if you want to write in bold, you’ll need to use asterisks between each sentence or word; in italics, the Underline sign; and so on.

Can I format more than one word or the entire sentence?

You can change the style of a single word or entire sentences, as long as you start and end the command with the corresponding symbol for each format.

An example: *Haanga*: _technology for those_ who understand. In this case, we used bold in the first word, italic in the following three and the last one was left unformatted.

Can I use bold, italic, and strikethrough in the same word?

Yes. Again, just use the commands for each format. Example: Haanga becomes *_~Haanga*_~. Or use the edit button after selecting the word.
