How to poll on Instagram

Taking a poll on Instagram is a very old feature of the photo and video platform, and now it has undergone a beautiful redesign. Through Stories, it is possible to create a poll using a specific sticker, with at least two answers to choose from for other users.

To learn how to make a poll on Instagram with more than two options, just follow the tutorial below. The procedure is valid for Android and iPhone (iOS).

How to take a poll on Instagram Stories

  1. Open the Instagram app and tap the “+” button at the top right of the screen;
  2. Drag to the left and select “Story”;
  3. Create Stories with a photo or video. Then, tap the sticker icon (sticker);
  4. Choose the “Poll” function;
  5. Define the question with up to four answer options;
  6. Publish Stories with the poll.

Why don’t I see the new poll layout yet?

Instagram started testing the new version of the poll sticker in early 2022. So not everyone has gotten the news yet. You can manually check for updates on the Google Play Store (Android) or App Store (iPhone), as the feature requires the Instagram app to be up to date.

Can I use the new version of polls in Reels?

No. So far, the new poll format can only be used in the Stories function.

Can I create a poll on Instagram from PC?

No. Instagram for computers does not yet allow you to create Stories, and the function remains exclusive to mobile phones.

Can I still create a poll via direct message?

Yes. Just tap the Direct icon in the upper right corner of the Instagram home screen and follow the same steps as in the tutorial to select the poll sticker. In Direct, the poll already follows the new format.

How long is the poll live?

Voting for a poll on Instagram lasts for the time of Stories, which is 24 hours. After this period, the question is closed. Anyone who manages to access the post, or if you repost the Stories after a day, will only see the final result with the votes counted.

More ways to interact with Instagram Stories

In addition to polls, Instagram has other tools that allow you to interact with your followers. These resources are ideal for those looking for a closer relationship with these people in order to generate an identification strategy with their profile or brand.

We list below the main features of Stories. All of them, with the exception of the last item, can be accessed in the platform’s resources tray, where the polls are also located.

In case you forgot, just tap on the camera icon in the top left corner of Instagram and then drag your finger from the bottom up on the screen. Then just tap on the desired item. Check out!

The questions feature, as the name implies, allows the user to create a box with a question that followers can answer with text. That is, there is no need to choose between options.

Note that, below the question box, there are two icons: one with the letters Aa and the other with a musical note. If you choose the second, the user can ask for song suggestions. Response from followers comes in the form of snippets of songs via Instagram’s Music tool.

The test is another feature that provides more interaction on the social network. With it, the user can ask a question, include 4 alternative answers and mark one as correct. When voting, at the same time, the person will know if he chose the right option or one of the 3 wrong ones.

The rating is a kind of poll that can be answered by dragging an emoji along a line. The further to the right the face is, theoretically, the more intense the feeling of the answerer.

You can also leave the question blank to react to the shared image.

Quiz and pranks

Another possibility to create proximity with those who follow your profile is to use filters with questions and challenges. Or post themed templates answering curious questions.
