  • 300 Google Assistant voice commands for you to know

Many of these products are on the rise in the Brazilian market, with more people making their homes smarter and more automated. Have you bought a device in this category and are in doubt about how to set it up on Google Home? Well, that’s what we’re going to teach you in the tutorial below.

How to add a new device to Google Home

As an example, we are using a Google Nest Mini speaker. Regardless of the device, make sure that the device is plugged into a power source and that it is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your smartphone. It is also necessary to activate the Bluetooth function on the mobile phone to improve the connection quality.

You can still see a list of devices that are compatible with the “Setup integrated with the Google Home app” badge at this link. After that, just follow the steps below.

Step 1: Download the Google Home app from the Play Store or App Store.

Step 2: With the Google Home app open, tap the “+” symbol in the upper left corner of the screen.

Step 3: in the “Add to Home” section, tap on “Configure Device”.

Step 4: select the device type. “New Devices” is intended for speakers, Chromecast, speakers, and products with the “Built-in setup with Google Home app” badge. Already in “Compatible with Google” are lamps, thermostats and plugs connected.

Step 5: choose a house or create a new one. It is not mandatory to enter your address. Tap “Next”.

Step 6: the app will start searching for new devices.

Step 7: If the scan does not automatically identify your device, you can manually enter it from a device list.

Step 8: when you find your device, tap “Next”.

Step 9: in the case of speakers (like the Nest Mini), the Google Home app will run some tests to verify that it works. This includes testing the sound. If everything is ok, tap “Yes”.

Step 10: inform which room of the house the device will be in. If you prefer, you can create your own location in “New custom environment” (it’s the last item on the list). Once the environment has been selected or created, tap “Next”.

Step 11: If your device supports Google Assistant, the Google Home app will prompt you to configure the service so you can use voice commands to control the device. Tap “Next”.

If you’re setting up a light bulb for example, or anything else that doesn’t support Google Assistant, skip ahead to Step 15.

Step 12: here is optional, but you can set the device to recognize only your voice when you speak a command through the “Voice Match” feature. Tap “I Agree” in the lower right corner of the screen. Or, if you want the device to answer everyone’s voice, tap “No” in the lower left corner.

Step 13: if in the previous step you agreed to Voice Match, tap “Agree” again. Or click “No” to continue.

Step 14: another optional item, this one only for those who enable Voice Match, are the custom results. Here, the Google Assistant itself makes smart suggestions for accessing your event calendar, contacts, reminders, and other tasks. If you want to activate the function, tap on “Agree”. If you prefer to leave it off, tap “No”.

Step 15: choose whether you want to configure any actions at this time, such as listening to music and radio, watching TV shows and movies, or calling family and friends. It’s also optional, and you can access these options whenever you want within the Google Home app’s settings. Tap “Not now” or “Next”.

Step 16: on this screen you will see what has already been configured on your device. Tap “Next”.

Step 17: depending on the device configured, you will be able to see a short tutorial on how to use it. In the case of the Nest Mini, there is some information about the device’s controls. This is also optional. Tap “Not now” to proceed, or “Next” to view the controls.

Step 18: with the device configured, tap “Continue”.

Ready! You now have a device integrated with the Google Home app. The device in question will be displayed on the app’s home screen.

Whenever you want to add a new compatible product, just follow the steps mentioned in this tutorial.
